GHOST IN THE SHELL
“Ghost in the Shell” stands as the inaugural animated installment of the series, directed by Mamoru Oshii, who had garnered significant recognition as an anime director through works like “Urusei Yatsura” and the “Mobile Police Patlabor” series. Released in 1995, the movie was highly anticipated. Location scouting took place in Hong Kong, and the diverse near-future cityscape featuring markets, slums, and towering buildings, set a unique backdrop that diverged from the original world of the series. The visuals and music left a global impact, and it became the first Japanese film to ever top the American Billboard video chart. In 2008, an enhanced version titled “Ghost in the Shell 2.0” was released, incorporating substantial CG elements.
