GHOST IN THE SHELL ARISE

Directed by Kazuya Nomura, who previously worked as the animation director for Mamoru Oshii’s “Ghost in the Shell,” and featuring the acclaimed science fiction writer Tow Ubukata as the scriptwriter, known for works such as “Mardock Scramble,” this theatrical animated film depicts the events on the eve before the establishment of the “Shell Squad.” With a fresh cast of voice actors distinct from earlier anime series, it is regarded as the fourth “Ghost.” The first episode, “border:1,” was released in 2013, followed by theatrical screenings up to “border:4.” In 2015, a new episode titled “Pyrophoric Cult” was added to the four theatrical episodes, and it was broadcast on television as “Ghost in the Shell: Arise – Alternative Architecture.”
