GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX
Kenji Kamiyama, a promising anime director at the time, took the helm and directed “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex,” which was broadcast as a pay-per-view film on SKY PerfecTV in 2002. Subsequently, its over-the-air broadcast attracted a younger and female fanbase, broadening the series’ fanbase. This work is often referred to as the third “Ghost” following the original and Oshii’s version. The second installment of the series, “Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG,” was released in 2004, followed by the third installment, “Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society,” in 2006. Notably, several special editions have also been produced, including a compilation of the “laughing man” arc from the original series and a 3D theatrical film adaptation of the third installment.
