THE GHOST IN THE SHELL
The series began serialization on April 22, 1989, in the fifth issue of the supplemental “Young Magazine Pirate Edition” of the youth magazine “Young Magazine.” It was created by manga artist Masamune Shirow, who had previously garnered acclaim with works such as “Appleseed” and “Dominion.” This series also serves as the foundation for all later adaptations. The collected volume was published in 1991. In 1997, a serialization titled “DUAL DEVICE” was featured in “Young Magazine,” and the compiled volume was later released in 2001 with the title “Ghost in the Shell 2.” As its name suggests, “Ghost in the Shell 1.5” stands for episodes that fall between the original, unnumbered volume (1) and volume 2. It was released as an e-manga in 2003 and was compiled into a volume with added materials from the anime and games in 2008.
