“Ghost in the Shell The Exhibition” – The first-ever series-wide exhibition in the history of “Ghost in the Shell” is coming to Hyogo in Summer 2026!
The exhibition “Ghost in the Shell The Exhibition,” currently held at TOKYO NODE (Toranomon Hills), is officially confirmed to travel to the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art this summer for its Kansai tour.
Since its inception in 1989, Ghost in the Shell has shocked creators worldwide with its cutting-edge vision of cybernetic bodies, digitized brains, and AI, consistently posing the universal question: “What does it mean to be human?” As we approach 2029—the year in which the series is set—the future depicted in the work is rapidly converging with our reality, driven by the proliferation of AI and the dawn of the cloud era. The anime series, helmed by legendary directors such as Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, Kazuya Kise, and Shinji Aramaki, has continuously updated these core themes with diverse expressions, always pointing toward the frontier of the times.
“Ghost in the Shell The Exhibition” is a large-scale exhibition that traces this 37-year journey, unraveling the essence of Ghost in the Shell as it probes the roots of humanity. In an era where fiction and reality overlap, what do we perceive as the “Ghost,” and how much do we define as the “Shell”? This exhibition confronts each visitor with these questions, offering a new perspective for contemplating the future.
The Kansai tour will feature a reconfigured layout tailored to the unique spatial characteristics of the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, delivering the core message of the Tokyo exhibition in a way that can only be experienced in Kansai.

Meanwhile, the current Tokyo exhibition at TOKYO NODE, featuring immersive cinematic experiences unique to the venue, will remain open until Sunday, April 5, 2026.
