Now Open at Shinsaibashi PARCO, Osaka! Featuring the world’s first exhibition of the “Katsuhiro Otomo × Ghost in the Shell” tribute illustration, along with brand-new collaboration items, reproduction artwork, and other exclusive merchandise!

Starting Friday, September 5, 2025, the first touring exhibition ‘The Exhibition of The World of Shirow Masamune -“The Ghost in the Shell” and The Path of Creation-’ opened at Shinsaibashi PARCO in Osaka. After attracting an overwhelming response with 55,000 visitors at its debut at the Setagaya Literary Museum in Tokyo in April 2025, the exhibition has finally arrived in Kansai!

 

Kicking off with the first unveiling of the “Katsuhiro Otomo × Ghost in the Shell” tribute illustration at the Osaka touring exhibition, visitors can also enjoy a collaboration café at TANK Sakaba/Kissa on the B2F of Shinsaibashi PARCO, along with a novelty campaign across participating restaurants inside the venue.

 

In addition, new items will make their debut, including a GEEKS RULE collaboration long-sleeve T-shirt, brand-new collaboration goods, and reproduction artwork. Merchandise featuring the “Katsuhiro Otomo × Ghost in the Shell” tribute illustration is also planned for future release. Don’t miss the uniquely Osaka edition of The World of Shirow Masamune!

Katsuhiro Otomo – Profile

Katsuhiro Otomo made his debut as a manga artist in August 1973 with Gun Report. In 1982, he began serializing AKIRA, which went on to win the 8th Kodansha Manga Award. The following year, he published Domu, which won the 4th Nihon SF Taisho (Japan Science Fiction Grand Prize). Recognized as a leading figure of a new generation of manga artists, Otomo also entered the world of animation, serving as character designer for the 1983 theatrical film Harmagedon: Genma Taisen (directed by Rintaro).

In 1988, he personally directed the animated feature film AKIRA. He went on to produce MEMORIES (1995), Steamboy (2004), and Combustible (2013, part of SHORT PEACE). His achievements have been widely recognized: in 2005, he was awarded the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Chevalier); in 2013, he received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in Japan; and in 2014, he was further honored with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officier) from the French government, alongside numerous other awards for his works.
