Ghost in the Shell The Exhibition: KIBIRU × Ghost in the Shell “Hakata-ori”

  • Overview
  • Hakata-ori × Ghost in the Shell
A masterpiece where 780 years of tradition meets the future.

Hakata-ori, one of Japan’s Three Great Textiles alongside Nishijin-ori and Kiryu-ori, has been woven since the Meiji era and earlier. Recognized as a Traditional Craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry—an honor granted to only 244 items nationwide—it is a pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship, long cherished as a textile with ties to the Imperial Household.

Across 780 years of history, the silk threads of Hakata-ori now intertwine with the cybernetic world envisioned in Ghost in the Shell. A dialogue emerges between tradition passed down “from hand to hand” by master artisans and the digital networks that connect minds “from brain to brain.” At the intersection of these two forms of connection, a new dimension of craft is born.

Woven with tradition, bound for the future.
Experience a singular beauty that interlaces past and future into one.
