The first-ever large-scale exhibition spanning all Ghost in the Shell anime series — GHOST IN THE SHELL EXHIBITION: Ghost and the Shell — will be held at “TOKYO NODE” in Toranomon Hills from January 30 to April 5, 2026!

The GHOST IN THE SHELL EXHIBITION: Ghost and the Shell will be held at TOKYO NODE, the information hub within Toranomon Hills, from January 30 (Fri.) to April 5 (Sun.), 2026.
Starting with the original manga by Shirow Masamune in 1989 and the landmark 1995 theatrical film GHOST IN THE SHELL, this unprecedented large-scale exhibition will comprehensively cover all anime works in the franchise’s history. Created with full cooperation from Production I.G, which has handled animation for the series over the years, and Science SARU, which will produce the new anime slated for broadcast in 2026, the exhibition offers an immersive experience that spans 30 years of Ghost in the Shell history.
In addition to works by legendary directors such as Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, Kazuchika Kise, and Shinji Aramaki, the exhibition will also showcase pieces related to the upcoming Science SARU anime. Visitors can compare and explore the unique themes and worlds of each installment.
Exclusive original merchandise will be available during the exhibition period, including special items you can only find here. An international tour is also planned, so keep an eye out for how Ghost in the Shell continues to expand its global reach. (Further updates will be announced in due course.)
Expect an unprecedented scale where anime, technology, and art converge in one dynamic exhibition experience.

Highlights of the Exhibition
● Explore the Origins of the Entire Series — Over 600 Archive Materials, Including Never-Before-Seen Items
More than 600 precious materials, including original drawings, concept art, and storyboards produced during the making of the Ghost in the Shell series, will be on display — many for the first time. The exhibition is designed so visitors can experience the sources of each series while comparing numerous archives and exclusive interviews with each director, providing a rare glimpse into the reality of the production process. Even casual visitors will be fascinated by this behind-the-scenes look into Ghost in the Shell’s creative universe.
● Unearth the Future from the Depths of Information — A Fully Immersive Experience
Visitors can look forward to immersive installations and interactive exhibits unique to TOKYO NODE. Rare interview footage decoding the stories from each director’s perspective will also be screened, offering fresh insights into Ghost in the Shell. A highlight is the “DIG-ru” installation, where visitors themselves dive into the vast informational world of Ghost in the Shell and excavate clues for the future — using both mind and senses to navigate this one-of-a-kind experience.
● A Place Where “Past and Present” Intersect — Redefining “What It Means to Be Human”
This exhibition is more than just viewing artworks. Through each installation, visitors can compare Ghost in the Shell’s vision of the future with today’s real-world changes and discover their own “personal Ghost in the Shell.” The universal question — “What does it mean to be human?” — which the series has consistently posed, will be reexamined through the lens of cutting-edge technologies such as AI and BMI (Brain-Machine Interfaces). By unraveling the relationship between “Ghost” and “Shell,” visitors are invited to reflect on their own existence while journeying between past and present.
● A New Perspective — Co-Creations with Creators Worldwide
During the exhibition period, installations co-created with contemporary artists and creators from Japan and abroad — inspired by Ghost in the Shell — will also be featured. This unique opportunity will allow visitors to experience the franchise’s global influence and diverse expressions.
● Exclusive Merchandise and a Unique Shop Only Possible at a Cross-Series Exhibition
Not only will original goods be available, but an exclusive shop unique to this cross-series exhibition will also be open, offering a special shopping experience that can’t be found anywhere else.
Comment from Director Mamoru Oshii
Ghost and Shell. The relationship is that within the Ghost lies the Shell — that is what “Ghost in the Shell” means to me. The Ghost does not reside only in people, but also in dolls, even plants. Something harmonious, calm. Something that whispers, like the wind.
What these works share is a futuristic vision. While each director has built on the worldview of the original manga, none have ever strayed from Shirow Masamune’s philosophy — nor can they. That’s why they can all be considered spin-offs, which is what makes this series so compelling.
If this exhibition is to be truly “cross-series,” it should have multiple entry points in a non-linear, subcultural way — not just the anime, but also the original manga and live-action adaptations. Only then can it become a truly cross-series exhibition.
