The Ghost in the Shell TV Anime Premieres on July 7th! Non-Credit OP/ED Videos Released & Soundtrack Announced

Ever since Masamune Shirow published the original manga in Young Magazine Zōkan: Kaizokuban (Kodansha) in 1989, the Ghost in the Shell series has continued to surprise and inspire audiences worldwide, expanding into a vast universe of media including Mamoru Oshii’s masterpiece film GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995), TV anime series, and a live-action Hollywood adaptation. The latest TV anime series, THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, premiered today, Tuesday, July 7, 2026. It will air every Tuesday at 11:00 PM on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV network during the newly established “Hianibar!!” programming block.
To coincide with the premiere, the non-credit versions of both the opening and ending sequences have been released on YouTube. In a historic first, both theme songs are spearheaded by Daiki Tsuneta: King Gnu provides the opening theme with their new song “GO GHOST,” while MILLENNIUM PARADE feat. Saya Gray & Daniel Caesar delivers the ending theme with “Blue.” This marks the first time ever that King Gnu and MILLENNIUM PARADE have double-headlined the theme songs for the same title.
The opening sequence is structured to showcase the action-packed operations of Public Security Section 9—the “Ghost in the Shell” team—while hinting at the deep drama that unfolds in this new series. Meanwhile, the ending sequence offers a visually striking conceptual narrative, evocative of the history and evolution of technology.

In addition, the release of the series’ original soundtrack has been announced. The music is composed and directed by Taisei Iwasaki, winner of the Japan Academy Film Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music for Belle (2021). Joining him in a powerful three-way collaborative production system are Ryo Konishi—who served as the music director for the Opening Ceremony of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, and has scored numerous films and dramas—and YUKI KANESAKA, a US-based composer who recently worked on the soundtrack for the hit TV anime Dr. STONE. The soundtrack is scheduled for release on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The soundtrack will be available in two formats: a 2-disc CD set and a 2-LP vinyl edition. The initial pressing of the CD version will feature a special limited-edition package, utilizing a brand-new custom illustration by artist tarou2, created under the supervision of Science SARU.
Furthermore, it was revealed today that a promotional poster for the “2026 White Paper on Science, Technology, and Innovation,” created in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), will be distributed to boards of education, elementary, junior high, and high schools, as well as science museums nationwide. The “White Paper on Science, Technology, and Innovation” is an annual report compiled by the government to outline policy measures taken to promote and foster science, technology, and innovation, based on the Science, Technology, and Innovation Basic Act. Following today’s announcement, approximately 40,000 copies of the poster will be sequentially distributed to various institutions across the country.
