“GHOST IN THE SHELL” Celebrates Its 30th Theatrical Anniversary Today — Featuring a Comment from Director Mamoru Oshii, a Special Anniversary Logo by YOSHIROTTEN, and New Content Released on the Official YouTube Channel!

November 18, 1995.
GHOST IN THE SHELL arrived in theaters as a decisive turning point in the history of Japanese animation. Portraying a future in which the boundaries between humans and the network blur, the film helped bring the term cyberpunk into global consciousness. With its philosophical depth and groundbreaking visual expression, it continues to inspire creators around the world to this day.
And now, on November 18, 2025, GHOST IN THE SHELL celebrates the 30th anniversary of its landmark theatrical release.

A comment from the film’s director, Mamoru Oshii, has been released:
“Before I realized it, 30 years had passed. The fact that this work continues to be loved—even as its media formats have shifted from film to video to DVD and beyond—is thanks to the strength of the original work and to everyone who has supported it.”
In addition, the 30th anniversary logo designed by artist YOSHIROTTEN was unveiled today. Reimagining “the space between the cyberbrain and life”—a core theme of Ghost in the Shell—the logo blends digital noise with organic fluctuation, creating a visual symbol of the ever-evolving relationship between humans and the network over the past three decades.
This special logo will appear for a limited time on the global Ghost in the Shell website and will serve as a unifying emblem for upcoming 30th anniversary projects. A moving version of the logo is also set to be released soon. Further updates will be announced via the official Ghost in the Shell social channels.

Additionally, to commemorate the 30th anniversary, new content for the official Ghost in the Shell YouTube channel has been announced. A special interview content titled “30 Questions for Director Mamoru Oshii”—in which Oshii is asked 30 questions—will be released, with fan submissions for the questions now open via the official Ghost in the Shell social media accounts.
An introductory content for newcomers to the franchise, “Ghost in the Shell for Beginners,” is also scheduled for release soon. Narrated by Tachikoma (voiced by Sakiko Tamagawa), the segment is designed to be enjoyable for longtime fans as well.
Furthermore, as the first installment of a new character-focused PV series, the Motoko Kusanagi version will be released in the coming days, with additional character PVs to follow.

To mark the anniversary of its original theatrical release, Ghost in the Shell has unveiled a wide range of new developments. In 2026, momentum continues with the “Ghost in the Shell Exhibition” opening at TOKYO NODE in late January, followed by the broadcast of a new TV anime produced by Science SARU.
Even after 30 years, Ghost in the Shell continues to pose vital questions about the future—and now, once again, the franchise is entering a new phase of “reboot.” There is much more to come, and all eyes should remain on what unfolds next.
