M.M.A. -Massive Mesh Ambitions- Special Feature #03 / Yu Koizumi + Yoko Hirose + Takehiro Ohya “A Line Crossed: The Collapse of Order and War”

A media project to speculate and discuss about GHOST IN THE SHELL “M.M.A. -Massive Mesh Ambitions-.

The theme of ISSUE #03 is “Boundaries.”

The Ghost in the Shell series is not only a seminal work of science fiction but also a robust piece of political fiction. Takehiro Oya, a legal philosopher and the supervisor of this special feature, highlights that Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 in particular depicts a world where violence, once confined to the sphere of war, has become an everyday phenomenon.

Unrecognized states that have emerged as anomalies within the sovereign state system, the activities—or clandestine maneuvers—of private military companies, “special military operations” that avoid being labeled as wars, and attacks such as assassinations and cyber intrusions that pervade peacetime society. In the discussion titled “A Line Crossed: The Collapse of Order and War”,” Yu Koizumi, a specialist in Russia’s military and security policy, and Yoko Hirose, an expert in international politics and post-Soviet regional studies, join Ohya to examine the realities that closely align with the world depicted in the series.

A roundtable discussion exploring the visible manifestations of violence and the trajectory of the disintegrating order it leaves in its wake.

It is only available in Japanese, the English version is coming soon.
